Learning Adjustment of Students After 2 Years of Modular Learning

- By: Joanne Marie Tan NOHS SHS Teacher

IT’S BEEN 2 years since the pandemic started. Students were enthralled by the means that face-to-face learning will finally come to reality. Some were excited, some were worried, and some were anxious. They are anxious about the idea that they will be facing new learning adjustments. They have to make a lot of preparations after 2 years of modular learning. First, students have to consider a new routine as their schedules are different from 2 years back. While online and modular learning made students follow their own time when they will be working on their school tasks; they have to follow the school schedule during face-to-face learning. Second is monetary concerns. To be back in school, one should prepare their school supplies to be used in face-to-face learning and they need to purchase new sets of uniforms. Though Deped Secretary Sarah Duterte imposed not to make school uniforms compulsory, parents still need to buy sets of clothes. Another factor that needs consideration is our students being emotionally ready. Students were already shocked when transitioned to modular learning and here they are about to lay in a face to face classes again. Some students are concerned about how they will deal with their teachers and classmates. They are apprehensive about whether they will do better in a face to face learning or not. Finally, students have to consider their health and safety. Even if face-to-face classes were permitted, they need to understand that COVID is still everywhere. Thus, they need to be prepared if by chance be contracted the virus. Though schools are following the health protocols, they need to understand that coming to school is still a risk. They need to be mindful of their health every day before coming to school. Taking vitamins and making themselves well-rested every day is a big help for them to be successful in a face-to-face learning modality. Two years of modular learning are now over and students are traveling to school daily. With fear or not, sure it is for the betterment of Philippine Education. Let us always be prepared and ready for any changes that may happen. As H. G. Wells says, “It is a law of nature we overlook, that intellectual versatility is the compensation for change, danger, and trouble”. *
