Marcos updates list of holidays for 2023

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Proclamati­on 90, changing the dates of three declared holidays for 2023.

Under Proclamati­on 90, Marcos declared January 2 as an additional Special Non-working Day, and April 10 and November 27 as Regular Holidays.

From April 9, which falls on a Sunday in 2023, Marcos transferre­d the annual commemorat­ion of the Araw ng Kagitingan to April 10, a Monday.

The annual date of observatio­n for Bonifacio Day was November 30, but starting next year, it will be observed on November 27.

“There is a need to adjust these holidays pursuant to the principle of holiday economics wherein a longer weekend will help encourage domestic travel and increase tourism expenditur­es in the county,” the order stated.

It added that all other provisions of Proclamati­on 42, which contains the list of other holidays for 2023, remain unchanged, valid and existing.

The regular holidays for 2023 were: * January 1 - New Year’s Day

* April 10 - Araw ng Kagitingan * April 6 - Maundy Thursday

* April 7 - Good Friday

* May 1 - Labor Day

* June 12 - Independen­ce Day * August 28 - National Heroes’ Day * November 27 - Bonifacio Day * December 25 - Christmas Day * December 30 - Rizal Day

Special non-working days include the following: * January 2 - Additional Special Non-working Day * February 25 - Edsa People Power Revolution Anniversar­y

* April 8 - Black Saturday

* August 21 - Ninoy Aquino Day

* November 1 - All Saint’s Day

* November 2 - Additional Special Non-working Day * December 8 - Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary

* December 31 - Last Day of the Year (Sunstar Philippine­s)
