Raps filed against suspect in killing of soldier inside Bacolod restobar
HOMICIDE and frustrated homicide complaints were filed yesterday, November 17, before the City Prosecutor’s Office against a bank accountant who allegedly killed a soldier and injured the owner of To-lips Restobar at Barangay Singcang-airport in Bacolod City early morning, Wednesday, November 16.
Major Joery Puerto, of Police Station 8, said they charged Ulysis Carampatana, 40, a resident of Santa Lucia Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, for the killing of Private First-class
Edmark Iwayan, 26, of Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City.
Restobar owner, Joebert Visem, 25, a resident of Sipalay City, was injured.
Carampatana’s neighbor, Joseph John Magahum, 45, was also hit by bullets while Iwayan’s colleague Private First-class Joebert Villagracia, 29, of Barangay
Hinolingan in Moises Padilla town, was also hit by Carampatana’s five companions using a hard object.
Puerto said it’s up to
Magahum if he will file a separate complaint against Carampatana.
He said Visem, Villagracia and Magahum were already discharged from the hospital while Carampatana is still confined at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center after he sustained a gunshot wound in his left shoulder.
He is now in stable condition.
Investigation showed that the soldiers, who are part of the Ready Deployment Forces of the 94th Infantry Battalion’s operational control, went to Tolips Restobar Tuesday night, after they got their year-end bonus.
Visem, who was a former Scout Ranger member, was Iwayan’s classmate, investigation also showed.
“The bar was almost closing when the group of Carampatana and Magahum arrived but the staff members already refused them,” Puerto said, adding that this angered the suspect prompting a verbal altercation between his group and that of Visem and the soldiers.
Puerto said Carampatana shot Iwayan several times which started the commotion and the exchange of gun fires.
He said Carampatana’s three companions, who hit Villagracia, voluntary surrendered yesterday morning at station while their two other companions, who also hit Villagracia and hid the gun of Carampatana, are still at large.
The police added that Carampatana’s three companions, whose names are being withheld, will serve as witness of the incident, but Villagracia can still file a separate complaint for physical injury against them.*(map)
