USPF hands UV first loss in Cesafi Season 22

- Philippines)

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers handed the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers their first loss, 5956, on Thursday night in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Season 22 collegiate basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The win propped USPF’S record up to 6-3, while UV dropped to 7-1.

USPF was in front, 5956, and had ball possession with 4.5 seconds remaining. Panthers’ veteran Karl Langahin then inbounded the ball to Neon Chavez, who, after seeing UV head coach

Gary Cortes head over to USPF’S side of the floor for the customary handshake, dropped the ball.

With time still on the clock, Salarda promptly picked the ball up, shot it, and made a three-pointer that would have tied the match at 59-all.

The play happened in front of a referee who initially deemed the shot good. However, after a lengthy discussion, officials eventually decided not to count the basket as time had already expired.

Although the league has suspended live streaming the basketball games, footage of the play was posted by Cortes on social media.

League commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy, Jr. explained that while the referee, Jay Calma, did raise his hand to signal the three, the officials eventually huddled together and deemed that the shot did not make it in time.

The commissioner also reminded fans, coaches, and players that the league cannot utilize video footage to make any decisions involving the game.(sunstar
