- BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

n array of his early collections and recent art works are now on display at the solo exhibit mounted by Negrense watercolor artist Edbon Sevilleno at the Artfull Gallery at 18th-lacson streets, Bacolod City.

Dubbed as the “Negrosscapes”, the exhibit will run until December 8

Finishing his Fine Arts degree at La Consolacion College-bacolod back in the 1980’s Sevilleno has been renowned as a prolific visual artist - a painter, a comic illustrator and graphic designer.

He started his career as a cartoon contributor for the comic strip “Borjok” for Misa tabloid, a sister publication of the Malaya newspaper, which was active towards the end of the Martial Law years.

The Negrense artist was also the illustrator of the award-winning children’s books under Phoenix Publications and had previously worked with director Chito Roños Optifex Animation Company as well.

Internationally, Sevilleno also became an animator of Hanna-barbera cartoons, the maker of the world-loved character Casper the friendly ghost.

Following the Edsa revolution, Sevilleno decided to work in the Middle East market with Ap7-mccann Ericson where he found his path and way from being a concept visualizer, graphic designer, art director, senior art director, all the way up to becoming an associate creative director.

Alongside this, he also did storyboards with advertising giants Leo Burnett, J. Walter Thompson, Saatchi & Saatchi, and others. Most recently, he worked with Nebras Films, as head of the visual concept development team.

This new solo exhibit he has mounted is among the countless ones he did, both locally and abroad.

He won second place for the 2019 Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) National Watercolor Competition and is also a recipient of LCC Bacolodcentennial Legacy Awards, for Excellence in Culture and the Arts.*
