32 UNO-R law students take oath as LSPS
THIRTY-TWO Juris Doctor (JD) students of the University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos (UNO-R) in Bacolod City took their oath as Law Student Practitioners (LSPS) before new Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Phoebe Gargantiel Balbin at the Hall of Justice on November 18.
With this, they can now undergo their Clinical Legal Education Program (Clep) which is a requirement before they graduate and take the Bar examinations.
Former RTC Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier granted their application for a Clep Level 1 Certification in a summary hearing on November 4.
CLEP is an experiential, interactive, and reflective single-unit course offered in the first and second semesters during the JD students’ second year.
It provides law students with practical knowledge, skills, and values necessary for the application of the law, delivery of legal services, and promotion of social justice and public interest, especially to the marginalized, while inculcating in the students the values of ethical lawyering and public service.
Balbin said it was her first time to administer this kind of oath-taking ceremony and as an alumna of UNO-R she was honored and happy to do so.
She reminded the law students to study harder and remember the purpose of this program is to inculcate in them the values of ethical lawyering and public service.
Dodie Turla, who is the dean of the UNO-R School of Law, Reverend Fr. Romeo Ben Potencio, Jr., OAR, VP for Academics and Research, RTC’S Second Vice Executive Judge Juvy Victoriano – Dioso; Atty.
