‘Recidivist’ nabbed with more than P1M ‘shabu’

TWO YEARS after he was released from jail for similar offense, a drug suspect was once again arrested over the weekend with more than P1 million work of suspected shabu at his house at Barangay 1A in Manapla town, Negros Occidental.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Steve Silava, alias “Tata”, 36, of the Barangay’s Bliss Project.

Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Nocppo) spokespers­on Inspector Judesess Catalogo said Silava was arrested for illegal drug charges back in 2017 but was released from jail on 2020 through plea bargaining agreement.

Silava’s arrest was jointly conducted by Noccpo’s Drug Enforcemen­t Unit, Manapla police station and the Drug Enforcemen­t Group among others.

Thirteen sachets of the banned substance weighing 155 grams and P250 believed to be proceeds from illegal drug trade were recovered from Silava during his arrest, police records showed.

In La Carlota, local police led by Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao arrested Leovic Conejos, 20, of Purok Paghidaet in the city;s Barangay RSB past 6 p.m. Saturday.

Armed with a search warrant issued by La Carlota City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez, the police raided the house of Conejos and recovered three sachets of suspected shabu with undetermin­ed value and weight, the police said.

Aside from that, the police also seized a homemade 12-gauge shotgun with six unfired ammunition, four unfired ammunition of a 7.62 millimeter caliber revolver, an unfired ammunition of a .38 revolver and several drug parapherna­lia, the police added.

Both suspects are now detained at the Manapla Municipal and La Carlota City police stations while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Act of 2002.*
