- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE BACOLOD City Police Station 5 is now preparing the homicide charges to be filed against the 39-year-old man believed to be suffering from mental illness, who allegedly mauled to death the pedicab driver in Barangay Granada on Monday afternoon, November 28.

Police said the suspect is a native of Bulacan and temporarily staying at Jalandon, Barangay 6 in Bacolod City.

Captain John Christopher Masangkay, commander of Police Station 5, said yesterday, November 29, that they are now preparing the documents to file the case against the suspect, who allegedly mauled Wennie Diamante to death.

Diamante, 57, is a resident of Relocation Site, Barangay Granada.

Investigation showed that Diamante was standing along Corner Montelibano-aguilar Streets when Miranda suddenly punched him in the face twice for unknown reason and fled.

Masangkay said Diamante fell to the ground and his head hit a stone.

The victim was brought to a hospital, but he did not survive.

Masangkay said the suspect, who used to stay in Barangay Granada Public Market, was arrested in a followup operation along Corner Scala, Fortune Towne in the city’s Barangay Estefania.

He said only the court can prove that he was suffering from mental illness.*
