- By: JESSA LYN S. GEOLLEGUE, Administrative Officer 2

The Department of Education (Deped) in the Philippines remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the quality of education nationwide. In a bold move towards this objective, Deped is pushing for significant changes in the standard of teaching by introducing new guidelines for school administrators across the country.

These guidelines, designed to revolutionize the educational landscape, encompass various aspects crucial to effective teaching and learning. Among the key areas addressed are curriculum development, teacher training, student assessment, and school management practices.

One of the primary focuses of the new guidelines is to promote a more studentcentered approach to education. School administrators are encouraged to tailor their curriculum to the needs and interests of their students, fostering a learning environment that is engaging, relevant, and inclusive. This shift towards personalized learning aims to maximize student potential and improve overall academic performance.

Furthermore, Deped emphasizes the importance of continuous professional development for teachers. Administrators are tasked with providing ongoing training and support to enhance educators’ pedagogical skills and keep them abreast of the latest teaching methodologies and technologies. By investing in teacher development, Deped aims to ensure that educators are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to deliver high-quality instruction.

The new guidelines also prioritize innovative assessment methods that go beyond traditional standardized testing. School administrators are encouraged to adopt alternative forms of assessment, such as project-based learning and portfolio evaluation, to provide a more comprehensive understanding of students’ abilities and achievements.

In addition to academic reforms, Deped’s new guidelines also aim to streamline administrative processes and improve overall school management practices. By promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency, these measures seek to create a conducive learning environment that supports the holistic development of every student.

As Deped continues to push for changes in the standard of teaching, these new guidelines represent a significant step towards achieving its vision of quality education for all Filipinos. With a strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, Deped is poised to usher in a new era of excellence in Philippine education.*
