Ex-rebel shot dead

A FOR­MER mem­ber of the New Peo­ple’s Army (NPA) was gunned down by uniden­ti­fied armed men at Barangay San An­to­nio in Hi­ma­may­lan City, Ne­gros Oc­ci­den­tal Fri­day morn­ing.

Killed was Ray­mart Dago­hoy, 22.

In­ves­ti­ga­tion showed the vic­tim, along with his fa­ther and five co-work­ers, was work­ing at the su­gar­cane plan­ta­tion past 6 a.m. when 22 armed men fired at him.

His fa­ther and five oth­ers were able to hide dur­ing the at­tack.

The gun­men be­lieved to be mem­bers of the rebel group then fled while shout­ing “Mabuhay ang NPA” (Long live NPA).

Po­lice re­cov­ered from the scene seven fired bul­lets of M16 Ar­malite ri­fle and .45 cal­iber pis­tol.

The vic­tim suc­cumbed to six gun­shot wounds in the head and stom­ach.

He was pre­vi­ously tar­geted by the same per­pe­tra­tors but he sur­vived the at­tack.

The in­ci­dent was trig­gered af­ter the vic­tim was iden­ti­fied as an al­leged “mil­i­tary in­for­mant” when he left the move­ment, ac­cord­ing to his fa­ther.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is still on­go­ing.

Mean­while, a de­com­pos­ing body of an uniden­ti­fied woman was found at a su­gar­cane plan­ta­tion at Barangay Aguisan in Hi­ma­may­lan Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 25.

Po­lice records showed that Ado­nis Ja-en was cut­ting the grasses be­side the su­gar­cane plan­ta­tion when he saw the body.

Po­lice have yet to iden­tify the vic­tim and de­ter­mine the cause of death.*
