DPWH paves barangay road in NegOcc

AP­PROX­I­MATELY 561 res­i­dents Barangay Lo­cotan in Kabankalan City, Ne­gros Oc­ci­den­tal are now en­joy­ing a more con­ducive and faster trans­port of goods and ser­vices with the newly con­creted road im­ple­mented by the De­part­ment of Pub­lic Works and High­ways (Dpwh) Ne­gros Oc­ci­den­tal Third Dis­trict Engi­neer­ing Of­fice.

Dis­trict en­gi­neer Haydee Alu­nan said the pro­ject, in the amount of P11.28 mil­lion, funded un­der Payapa at Masaganang Pa­mayanan pro­gram ini­ti­ated by the Of­fice of the Pres­i­den­tial Ad­viser on the Peace Process (OPPAP), in­volved con­crete paving of 718 lin­eal me­ters of road, fiveme­ter wide Port­land Con­crete Ce­ment Pave­ment in­clud­ing pipe cul­verts and grouted riprap.

Alu­nan also said the pro­ject pro­vides a bet­ter road net­work in iso­lated and vul­ner­a­ble ar­eas in Kabankalan City due to in­sur­gency prob­lems.

“This is one of the in­fra­struc­ture projects im­ple­mented to lessen the in­sur­gency cases in win­ning the long-last­ing peace process an­chored on PAMANA pro­gram,” she added.

The road concreting pro­ject also pro­motes con­ver­gent de­liv­ery of farm prod­ucts on the con­flict-af­fected com­mu­ni­ties to en­sure that they will not be left be­hind in the so­cio-eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment in the town.

In ad­di­tion, res­i­dents of ad­ja­cent and nearby sitios will be more as­sured that the gov­ern­ment is do­ing its best to cope with the needs of the af­fected com­mu­ni­ties by pro­vid­ing ac­ces­si­ble roads, war­rant­ing the safety of the com­mu­nity in in­sur­gency cases.
