Ma, daughter drown in river
A MOTHER and her daughter were found dead after they were drowned in a river in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatalities as Jonafi Besario, 24, a native of Cauayan town; and her daughter, Nicole Marie, 4.
The victims were residing at Barangay Tangub in Bacolod City. They arrived in the town on May 21 to visit a relative.
Police Staff Sergeant Aireen Taco, investigator of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), said the victims were crossing a river at Barangay Marina last Sunday afternoon.
Later that day, some residents found the child floating near the river while her mother was missing.
The following day, the mother, who was already bloated and had some head injuries, was found in a river at Barangay Canmoros, 500 meters away from the place where her daughter was found.
Taco said the victims’ family has been looking for them since Sunday upon learning that they went to the river. They feared because the mother was allegedly suffering from nervous breakdown.
They probably drowned due to the strong current of the water, she added.*
