Guv leads Blood Donors Month celebration at Capitol
GOV. Eugenio Jose Lacson led in the National Blood Donors Month celebration held at the Negros Occ. Multi-purpose Activity Center (NOMPAC) in Bacolod City, Tuesday.
This year’s theme, “Safe blood for all”, aims to raise awareness about the universal need for safe blood in the delivery of health care and the crucial roles that voluntary donations play in achieving the goal of universal health coverage.
The activity, spearheaded by the Negros First Provincial Blood Center, Provincial Health Office, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Philippine Red Cross, among others, started with a motorcade along the main streets of Bacolod and followed by a program and blood donation activity at NOMPAC.
Gov. Lacson said that emergencies trigger increased demand for blood supply, and to prevent a significant draw down of blood supply, a well-organized blood service is necessary to meet blood necessities especially in times of crisis.
He urged the LGUS, health officers, blood donor recruitment officers and coordinators, chiefs of hospitals, among others, to continue to deepen the campaign for blood donation.
“The success or failure of our endeavor to save lives is dependent on our commitment and consistency in advancing our cause,” he said. Present in the activity were Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Provincial Blood Council Chairman Dr. Eriberto Layda, and representatives from the different partners and stakeholders, hospitals, local government units, government agencies, and non-government organizations.
