THE Philippine Army in Negros Occidental has heeded the urgent call for assistance made by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson after they initiated a blood donation drive for dengue patients.

The army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IB) led the event in partnership with the provincial government of Negros Occidental at the Panaad Park and Stadium last week.

303IB commander, Brigadier General Benedict Arevalo, said the event was a simple and meaningful way of extending help to the people of Negros.

Arevalo said the event was also in line with the orders given by Lieutenant General Macairog Alberto, Commanding General of Philippine Army, and 3rd Infantry Division commander Major General Dinoh Dolina to support similar calls made by the Department of Health.

The event aims to provide additional bloody supply for dengue patients in the province.

Aside from the event at the Panaad Park, the said blood drive was also simultaneously conducted by other units belonging to the 303IB, such as the 62nd Infantry Battalion which also held the same activity in La Carlota City and in the town of Isabela.

A total of 220 volunteers participated in the said activity and they were able to gather at least 145 bags of blood.

Based on data gathered by the provincial government from January to July, there were a total of 1,884 dengue patients admitted at the province’s 11 hospitals across Negros Occidental.*
