SMB breaks ground for new fa­cil­ity in Iloilo

LEGANES, Iloilo – San Miguel Brew­ery Inc. (SMB) will hold the ground­break­ing for a new pro­duc­tion fa­cil­ity in Barangay Gua-an, Leganes, Iloilo on Septem­ber 20.

SMC pres­i­dent and chief op­er­at­ing of­fi­cer Ra­mon S. Ang will lead the ground­break­ing cer­e­mony, to­gether with Se­na­tor Franklin Drilon, Iloilo Gover­nor Arthur De­fen­sor Jr., Leganes Mayor Vi­cente Jaen II, Gua-an Barangay Cap­tain Alberto Ca­pa­jay Jr., and other Iloilo lo­cal gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials.

The com­ple­tion of the new pro­duc­tion fa­cil­ity is ex­pected in about two years. It will have an ini­tial ca­pac­ity of one mil­lion hec­to­liters.

SMB has two brew­eries in the Visayas re­gion, the Man­daue and

Ba­colod brew­eries, built in 1968 and 1990, re­spec­tively.

The Iloilo fa­cil­ity is part of San Miguel’s on­go­ing ca­pac­ity ex­pan­sion pro­gram, first an­nounced in 2017, to grow its core busi­ness, meet in­creased de­mand, and bring eco­nomic growth and jobs to key re­gions na­tion­wide.

SMB is set to com­plete a new brew­ery in Tagoloan, Misamis Ori­en­tal and con­vert its ex­ist­ing Santa Rosa, La­guna bot­tling fa­cil­ity into a full-fledged brew­ery. The com­pany is also de­vel­op­ing a more ef­fi­cient dis­tri­bu­tion sys­tem.

“We look for­ward to grow­ing our pres­ence in the Visayas re­gion. This ma­jor devel­op­ment is an im­por­tant part of San Miguel’s cur­rent ex­pan­sion in key re­gions na­tion­wide,” SMC pres­i­dent and COO Ra­mon Ang said.

“Our aim is to help our na­tion achieve its devel­op­ment goals by in­vest­ing in emerg­ing growth ar­eas. With this in­vest­ment, we hope to help ac­cel­er­ate the re­gion’s over­all growth and bring more jobs to our coun­try­men in the south,” Ang said.

“This is a sig­nif­i­cant mile­stone for our com­pany as we con­tinue to pur­sue new growth op­por­tu­ni­ties. Over the long-term, this new fa­cil­ity will al­low us to ad­dress grow­ing de­mand and max­i­mize ef­fi­cien­cies through­out the sup­ply chain,” SMB pres­i­dent Roberto Huang said.

SMB is the mar­ket leader in the beer in­dus­try, hold­ing over 95% mar­ket share. SMB has brew­eries strate­gi­cally lo­cated in Valen­zuela, Pam­panga, Man­daue, Davao del Sur and Ba­colod, and a bot­tling fa­cil­ity in Santa Rosa, La­guna.
