A RADIO broadcaster was killed yesterday by riding-in-tandem gunmen in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental.

Police identified the fatality as Dindo Generoso, a radio broadcaster of DYEM 96.7 Bai Radio, and resident of Barangay Banilad of said city.

Dumaguete City police chief, Police Lt. Colonel Wilfredo Alarcon, Jr., said the victim was heading towards his car when two unidentified men in a motorcycle opened fire at Generoso’s vehicle.

The suspects immediately fled the area, while Generoso was rushed by paramedics to a hospital

but was declared dead on arrival after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in his body.

Alarcon said Generoso had been repeatedly receiving threats to his life via phone calls prior to his murder.

Police believe his work as a media man could be a motive behind the shooting.

In response to Generoso’s murder, National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) Chairman Nonoy Espina said whatever may be the reason, murder is never justified.

Espina added he will release a formal statement as soon as police establish a clear motive over the incident.*
