PB commends Bakun-Mankayan villages

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – Peaceful resolution of a boundary dispute has been lauded by officials.

In a resolution by the local council of Mankayan, a com- mendation for the boundary dispute settlement between Bagu, Bakun and Cabiten, Mankayan made by both village chiefs Marlon Abyading and Balodoy Totanes.

The Mankayan council cited “This body commends the two barangays for the settlement made, considerin­g the boundary dispute between the two municipali­ties should be resolved before the Sangunigan­g Panlalawig­an, the two concerned barangays were able to settle the dispute by themselves with tranquilit­y and docility.

Barangay officials of towns in the boundary of both Mankayan and Benguet have agreed to set boundaries in their areas.

In a memorandum of agreement Abyading and Totanes, five corners were approved as barangay boundaries of barangays Cabiten in

Makayan and Barangay Bagu of Bakun located in the following sitios; Apantaan – Lasingan, Ambodon - Las- ingan, MasabakBaa­y, Maanes- Baay, Maanes- Nakaitan and Sabbang – Abra River ( Dalipey Bagu and Cabiten)

The agreement was approved when barangay officials, elders, peoples groups met.

The memorandum stipulated that it was in 1999 during the term of the late Mayor Tico Dalmones of Bakun and the late Manalao Galuten of Mankayan that they arrived into an agreement and settlement of the identified five corners be the permanent boundaries between the two municipali­ties.

The provincial board in their regular meeting Monday, endorsed the village MOA, sealing the settlement.
