Double championship bout all set
DESPITE the last minute backing out of Indian nationals in the fight card, the double championship bout slated September 6 at the La Trinidad Municipal gym pushes through.
Boxing promoter Brico Santig of the Highland Boxing Gym said the original fight card were several boxers from India are supposed to see action will no longer fight as only one of them has secured a visa to fight in the country.
“The fight will push go on although nabawasan yung mga lalaban kasi we heard yung mga Indian eh hindi nakakuha ng visa in time for the fight on Sunday,” Santig added.
The main event will feature former IBF Pan Pacific minimum weight champion Mateo Handig ( 13- 9) challenging ABF super flyweight champion Ben Mananquil (10-12).
The fighting pride of Zamboanga Del Norte is coming off a seven month lay-off after suffering a split decision loss to Xiang Jing for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title. Mananquil was over- weight in his bout with Jing last December after having weighed 1.5 lbs over the 112 lbs weight limit.
Handig on the other hand after wresting the IBF crown in October 2012 has suffered four straight loss where he last saw action in
March earlier this year and was knocked out in the eighth round by Panomroonglek Kaiyanghadaogym in Thailand for the Pan Asian Boxing Association bantamweight title.
The co- main event of the evening will also feature former WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Alie Laurel eyeing his 14th win in 17 bouts against Samar’s Gerry Patenio in eight rounds of the 123 lbs division.
Geboi Mansalayao will take Powell Balaba while Parabjot Singh, the only remaining Indian national in the card is set to take on Mike Espanosa in the undercard.
Argie Toquero on the other hand squares off against Joffrey Garcia.
