2 dead, 22 injured during Holy Week

AT LEAST two died while 22 others were injured in separate occasions all over the region during the observance of Lenten Season based on reports of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

The fatalities were identified as Kecy Joyce C. Campol, 13, from Ifugao and Lebino Sama Espara Jr., 32, of Bokod, Benguet.

According to the OCD report, Campol went for swimming at a river in Sitio Solang, Barangay Pieza in Lamut town together with her friends on March 23, Wednesday.

Investigat­ion con- ducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Ifugao disclosed the victim was noticed to be missing prompting her friends to ask help from a person nearby – whose names were not identified.

At around 12: 30 pm, the victim was

recovered by barangay officials and community volunteers of Pieza but was already dead due to asphyxia, the OCD report states.

Espara on the other hand also drowned when the motor boat he was riding capsized at around 6: 30 pm over Ambuklao Dam in Bokod, Benguet after bumped into a wood debri.

The victim’s body was recovered at around 7: 30 am of March 26, through the joint effort of the municipal police, fire marshals and the local fishermen of Bokod.

The OCD report disclosed that Espara went for a picnic over Ambuklao Dam with his friends whose identities were not divulged.

The OCD report released on Monday, March 28, also monitored seven vehicular accidents in the region.

Four other vehicular accidents were recorded in Ifugao resulting to injuries.

The first road accident transpired on March 23, Wednesday, when a red Honda XRM with plate number 9615 driven by Eric Linglingon, 29, from Lagawe had a front-toside collision with a green pick- up SUV bearing plate number UBM 924 driven by Rev. Andrew Claver traversing the Lagawe Highway to Mountain Province.

Linglingon was injured due to the road collision including his rider Jery Puguon, 30. The Municipal Police of Lagawe is still conducting investigat­ions.

Denmark Cristobal, 18, from Bulacan also suffered an injury after the motorcycle he was riding lose brake and skid along Bolog in Kiangan.

Another motorcycle accident was monitored on March 25, Friday, at around 10: 30 am in O-ong, Hingyon resulting to the abrasions at lower and upper extremitie­s of Collin Bucbucalon, 16, from Amganad, Banaue.

On the same date, a private jeepney with plate number GBY 282 carrying 18 passengers bumped the shoulder of the road in Tuplac, Kiangan at around 3:30 am. Injured were Ivy Sheryl Ballogan, Jay-ann Pumihic, Marina Dincog, and Saldy Valdez. Patients were brought to Panopdopan District hospital for treatment.

In Baguio City, the Department of Health Cordillera monitored two vehicular accidents on March 24.

Dennis Wawac was jogging along Quezon Elementary School on March 24, when he was reportedly side swept by a motorcycle driven by Alejandro Robino Taganap, 27. Both were rushed to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment at 6: 50 am and were immediatel­y discharged.

On the same date, the DOH- CAR monitored a head on collision involving a taxi, SUV and a van along Forestry Road in Loakan at around 11:40 am.

Injured were Saddler Litong Cutay, 38; Clarivel Gawid Audije, 33; and, Danilo Santos Pangilinan, 49. All three were treated at the BGHMC and discharged at 2:15 pm.

In Barangay Cagaluan, Pasil, Kalinga, a passenger jeep lost its break on March 23, Wednesday, at around 1: 30 pm causing rear end collision to a dump truck.

Seven individual­s were injured and were brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

The victims were Jennyfer Doggom Bogacon, 24; Angelica Daquiwag Wanason, 20; Leymar Bangonan Camalao, 20; Cosme Damaya, 60; Maura Batawang Gumpad, 71 and Carrina Fernandez Villaroz, 48.

Aside from the drowning and vehicular accidents, OCD also monitored six fire incidences during the Lenten Season.

Three of which happened in Baguio City involving a structural fire in Phase II, Green Valley and two separate grass fires in Lamtang, Irisan followed by another at Purok II, Happy Hallow.

A structural fire also transpired in Lagawe, Ifugao as well as two structural fires in Benguet particular­ly at Tabio, Mankayan and in Buyagan, La Trinidad.
