Bakun PNP spearheads earthquake drill
IN SUPPORT to the office of the Civil Defense’ Memorandum No. 103, s. 2016, the First Quarter Simultaneous Earthquake Drill was conducted at Labinio- Mariano Elem. School, Alibacong, Gambang, Bakun, on March 18.
Police Senior Inspector Jeffrey Fermin Vicente, Bakun-Chief of Police explained in his lecture to the 7 teachers and 110 pupils the need to conduct earthquake drills since the Philippines is located in the Pacific ring of fire.
In his lecture on earthquake preparedness, he presented the places affected by earthquakes which belong to countries located in the Pacific ring of fire; the causes of earthquakes; active and inactive volcanoes and the safety measures to be done during and after the occurrence of an earthquake. The teachers and pupils were also reminded of how to perform the “duck, cover and hold technique.
After the lecture, inspection of the school to identify escape route and evacuation area was also done by the teachers and PNP members. The drill immediately followed and during the alarm phase, the pupils applied the “duck, cover and hold technique”. Some pupils were also instructed to do rescue operation. At the evacuation area, PSI Jeffrey Vicente together with SPO4 Simon G. Pablo, PO2 Marlon C. Watti and PO2 Aurelio G. Paplonot demonstrated ways on how to carry an injured person during earthquake.
The drill successfully ended with a message from the PNP members that they will always be ready to support the conduct of earthquake drills and other school activities.
