Kings College to form archery squad

-

KINGS College of the Philippines is hoping to field its archery squad in next year’s Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League ( BBEAL).

After being welcomed in the largest collegiate sports association in North Luzon, the KCP Tigers is looking to form an archery team for the next season of BBEAL.

KCP’s interim athletic director Danny Edwardo said the school is already scouting potential athletes who will be trained for the sport.

“KCP is already looking to recruit athletes for archery. We hope that we can develop and adopt the sport in time for the next BBEAL season,” Edwardo told Sun.Star Baguio.

“The athletic department has already made the request through our president, Ricardo Umayam. We hope the request will very soon reach the attention of our school as we all know the sport is amongst the most competed event for BBEAL,” Edwardo quipped.

Edwardo said KCP has already scouted two male archers currently enrolled in their school.

He said the two former high school archers also competed for Mt. Province in the previous Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet.

The KCP official

said the school is also looking for assistance to train coaches and athletes from the archery club based in Baguio City and Benguet.

Despite their intent to bring in more budding sportsmen for their school, Edwardo said KCP will still have to work double time in recruiting athletes if it wants to improve its ranks in BBEAL.

“This is just among the initial plan, we need to improve what we have and we hope to see KCP as one of the better contenders in the different sport events of BBEAL,” Edwardo explained.

Over the past months, KCP has opened its school for walk- in athletes who are looking to continue their sports career while studying for college. Mark Victor Pasagoy
