Benguet bids farewell to Board Member Piok
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - Benguet officials bid farewell to a beloved colleague.
Neurological services were given to Board Member Esteban Piok who succumbed to complications over the Holy Week.
Officials led by governor Nestor Fongwan, the entire Provincial Board, em-
ployees and colleagues gathered at the Capitol grounds to pay their last respects to the alderman who has dedicated his life to public service.
Before his passing, Piok filed which created a team to oversee the implementation of the provisions of the responsible parenthood and reproductive health concerns as well as the Magna Carta for women is being done in a bid to make wellness a concern.
It was the last ordinance Piok has filed which passed the first and second readings.
Piok advocated for the Provincial Advocacy Team (PAT) to be created and will be in charge to attend all advocacy activities and closely coordinate with the Philippine Legislators Committee for Population and Development (PLCPD).
Piok also envisioned the PAT to participate in the development and implementation, monitoring, evaluation and coordination of the projects.
The PAT would also be taking the lead in the introduction of local ordinances and resolutions that will institutionalize and allocate funding for RH pro- grams as well as coordinate with the various agencies for its implementation.
A medical doctor by profession, Piok served as Provincial Health Office chief for many years before he ventured into politics.
Colleagues took turns during the eulogy and praised the doctor who was assigned in various towns in the province before he took charge as the Provincial Health Office chief as well as being Chief of Hospitals in the province.
Piok served as a board member for the province and was on his way to seek a third term and heads the Committee on Health and Sanitation and is a known champion of reproductive health and general healthcare.
The former provincial health official was an advocate of safe child birthing techniques for mothers in the area and the use of the medical establishments when delivering their babies.
After the prayer service, the family travelled to bring home Piok to his hometown in Daklan, Bokod where he will be laid to rest.
