Baguio opens use of Athletic Bowl to CAR

- Mark Victor Pasagoy Sun*Star Reporter

THE BAGUIO Athletic Bowl will remain open for elementary and secondary athletes coming from the neighboring provinces of the Cordillera region.

The Baguio City Sports and Recreations Office ( CSO) announced the cityowned sports facility will continue to welcome junior athletes who plan to make an in- house training in the Summer Capital.

City sports development officer Gaudencio Gonzales said the CSO will make sure the Athletic Bowl will be open for use by the neighboring provinces of Baguio City.

“We will continue to open the sports facility for the use of our neighboring Cordilleran provinces. As long as the area is available for public practice we can have them accommodated free of charge kung kailangan ng mga kapitbahay natin na provinces,” Gonzales told Sun.Star Baguio.

Gonzales said the facility was opened to other provinces after Mayor Mauricio Domogan announced during the annual Cor- dillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet held earlier in February allowing junior sportsmen from Cordillera’s six other provinces to train in Athletic Bowl.

“As long as walang private reservations made pwede silang makigamit and magtrain. Pero as much as possible they should advise the office early para we will be able to confirm kung available para sa public ang sports facility,” Gonzales said.

“Ang training for CARAA and even for the Palarong Pambansa goes the whole year round kung maari. We want to show Baguio is also in support of developing prime athletes in the Cordillera,” he added.

At present studentathletes, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities based in the Summer Capital are allowed to train and practice inside the sports arena for free.

However, regular joggers and walkers using the area are required to pay a minimum amount of P35, which will be used for maintenance and upkeep of the facility.

“Kung kailangan ng mga ibang Cordilleran province ng training space we can let them use the area. Basically this will be the least we can do since tayo pa lang naman ang may available na facility such as the Athletic Bowl,” Gonzales quipped.
