Humbug

- ON SELF ON LOVE AND RELATIONSHIP… ON PROBLEMS AND PAIN… ON MEN… ON LIFE AND WANTS…

IstruggleREFUSE to talk about Valentines. It is uncharacteristic and will become a for credibility to talk about love. No. Not I. The ultimate joke the universe has played is having my un-valentine like column fall on the day of the hearts.

So what will we talk about now?

Issues at hand, current events, basketball, and the weather?

An editor friend posted on his social media account he needed love stories for this week’s edition of his paper saying the more tragic or disastrous the story, the more chances to be printed. Does love dwell on tragedy? Or have we become too callused to anticipate a lover’s downfall even before the affair takes off.

So in response to this day of love, I will keep silent about matter of the heart and revert your attention to my favourite series years back.. Ally Mcbeal, who embodies all the bitterness love lost is about.

Quotes from the series that will put to shame the Jollibee ads making everyone cry these days.

Be gone Valentine’s! Humbug! "I like being a mess. It's who I am." – Ally “Maybe I'm happy and I just don't know it.” – Ally

“There are some people who meet that somebody that they can never stop loving, no matter how hard they try. I wouldn't expect you to understand that, or even believe it, but trust me, there are some loves that don't go away. And maybe that makes them crazy, but we should all be lucky enough to end up with somebody who has a little of that insanity. Someone who never lets go. Someone who cherishes you forever." –Ally

"The truth for me [is that] our friendship is the greatest thing I got going. I cherish it. And to put an honesty boundary on it... I don’t want to. So free fall with the truth and hope we both survive." - Ally to Billy

“Maybe I'll share my life with somebody... maybe not. But the truth is, when I think back of my loneliest moments, there was usually somebody sitting there next to me.” – Ally

“The wrong ones can’t hurt you. It’s the right ones.” – Ally

“I did love you. Problem was you couldn't recognize it. Love is wasted on you because you'll always be unhappy, that's why I left. You may go through your good times, but we both know the place you'll always go back to. I couldn't have pulled you out of your world, you would have pulled me into yours." – Billy “You only die once!” – Ally “I don't want what I want, and I want what I don't want, and to complicate it even more, I don't even know what I want or don't want!” – Ally "The truth is, I probably don't want to be too happy or content, 'cause then what? I actually like the quest, the search. That's the fun. The more lost you are, the more you have to look forward to. What do you know? I'm having a great time and I don't even know it." – Ally

“We're not only wired to want what we can't have, but we're also wired to want what we really don't want.” –Ally

“Even if I did get past all my problems, I'm just gonna get out and get new ones.” – Ally

“Sometimes... there's no point in the truth if the only thing it will do is cause pain.” – Ally

“Snow White. Cinderella. All about gettin' a guy. Being saved by the guy. Today it's the Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas. All about gettin' a guy.” – Renee

“So basically we're screwed up because of...” – Ally

"Whoever said that plenty of fish in the sea thing was lying. Sometimes there's only one fish. Trust me." – Ally

"Men are like gum anyway. After you chew, they lose their flavor." – Ally

“It's nice to be nice. I believe in being nice, but sometimes you gotta dump them. Give this guy the bin .... You gotta give him a straight, hard dump. It's the only thing these bastards understand.” – Elaine intervention or God’s conviction before we do what is right if we already have knowledge of it. Our knowledge to what is right is our knowledge to the truth and we should act on it without a second thought. Otherwise, it is like going to a seminar after seminar without change and progress. Even if it is of public knowledge that such act is forbidden and penalized by law, many still fall into it. This practice should be stopped. Our country is looking for people who reject corruption, who live in their conviction and fight for what they believe as right and proper even to the point of death. This is exactly the oath of every Filipino enshrined in the Philippine National Anthem, “…ang mamatay ng dahil sa ‘yo.” Holding on to one’s conviction even in the face of persecution is in a way “dying to self.”

(Note: This term “conviction” must be distinguished from the legal dictum in a criminal case as declaration of guilt, judgment, or sentence.) capacitate marginalized communities and encourage decision makers in business and government to respond to the changes that impact their agricultural production and food security.

That perhaps is what the CHARMP2 tried to convey while it delivered a multitude of programs and projects and pioneered rural development strategies for marginalized and once unknown highland regions.

Once upon a time, we have been to these places. We have charmed them in our time, so that those who will come after us can do what they can to help stabilize them and protect the ground where they are planted as common stewards of the Earth, until man has begun to settle the unknown reaches of the universe.
