Poetry out loud

STUDENTS and advisers from the different schools nationwide are set to converge in Baguio City to showcase their best spoken word poems in the 2nd Poetry Out Loud competitio­n to be presented by the School Press Advisers Movement (SPAM) Inc.

Set on April 27-29 at Venus Parkview Hotel, the contest is open to all students from both private and public schools for the elementary, high school and college categories. The school administra­tors, teachers, professors on the other hand will vie for the adviser’s category.

Each contestant needs to submit an original piece of their own compositio­n which may be written in English or Filipino by sending it through spamincorp­orated.2006@gmail.com. Walk-in contestant­s must submit upon registrati­on three copies of their entry poem printed in short bond paper, Tahoma 12 point-size font, 1.5 spacing, and centered alignment.

The criteria for judging will be based on poise and physical presence 20%, quality of compositio­n 25%, delivery 25%, mastery 20%, and overall performanc­e 10% for a total of 100%.

Poetry Out Loud is part of SPAM’s 4th Extramural Training: Training the Trainers and Writers activity dubbed “Getting into the Stride of Responsibl­e and Innovative Writing” which strives to provide an extensive training for media and journalism or communicat­ion trainers and students including the campus press.

New SPAM Inc. President Richard Briones who took over the post after his wife Melanie Briones, the founder of the national organizati­on said Extramural specifical­ly aims to train all participan­ts the craft of writing stories and engage them in the field of spoken poetry.
