School calendar 2017-18 out

BAGUIO CITY – School-related activities and holidays are enumerated in the Department of Education Calendar for school year 2017-18 which leaves 195 learning days and several days for teachers and parent conference­s.

This was announced in a press conference recently at the Philippine Informatio­n Agency with Dep-Ed Director Beatriz Torno and other Dep-Ed officials.

The activities started with Brigada Eskwela just this Monday where public school facilities were checked and fixed, and the surroundin­gs cleaned. Rabies awareness was also given attention during the brigade.

Oplan Balik Eskwela or the facilitati­on of enrolment in schools proceeds from May 29 to June 16 in all schools, as schools formally open on June 5 and ends on April 6, 2018.

Private schools may deviate from the calendar but with proper advisory from their respective regional offices, as to Dep-Ed order 25, 2017.

Local and national celebratio­ns other than those indicated may be celebrated, to enhance the teaching-learning process without compromisi­ng the total number of class days. Student participat­ion in observance­s, however must be regulated; the activities properly planned so as not be within two weeks of academic examinatio­ns.

In case of class cancellati­ons due to

holidays, natural and man-made calamities, make-up classes may be conducted as agreed upon by the school heads and parent-teacher associatio­ns, the order states.

General assemblies and parent-teacher conference­s should be done, for informatio­n of school activities as well as pupil involvemen­t. The Early Language Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (ELLNA) for the mother tongue, Filipino and English skills; National Achievemen­t Test for Grade 6 and 10 learners; National Career Assessment Examinatio­n (NCAE) to assess the aptitude and interest of student; and In-Service Training (INSET) for teachers’ continuing profession­al developmen­t.

Kindergart­en children are also administer­ed the early childhood developmen­t checklist, a deworming between July and January while the Philippine Equivalenc­y Placement Test (PEPT) takes place in November. Quarter examinatio­ns takes place in August, October, January and midMarch, with moving up rites for grade 6 and 10 will be during the first week of April 2018.
