Probe for Malcolm tiles on

-

VICE MAYOR Edison Bilog has called for an investigation on the damaged flooring of the newly refurbished Malcolm Square.

Bilog has called on City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) and the City

Engineering Office (CEO) to shed light on the dilapidated flooring of the open park.

Bilog said he has personally inspected the area and attested to veracity of the reports over social media and complaints to his office on the damage of the newly installed tiles.

Last year, the park gave way to the designs of local Architect, Aris Go to a full rehabilitation of the Malcom Square foregoing enclosed spaces going back to the original public square filled with open spaces.

The project was then bided out to RAJ Construction and was pegged to cost P10 Million led by contractor Peter Julian.

Bilog said there are tiles which are in very bad shape and could pose a danger to passerby’s as he pushed for the presence of concerned agencies in next week’s regular session.

In the design of Go, The park was envisioned to have seating for those who want to lounge around with the usual fixtures like the shoe shine boys to be accommodated as well, the park will be lined with R11 tiles which are designed to be non slip for safe walking using subdued muted colors of beige, white and black.

The design of the park is described to be “The wedge shape and gradual slope of the site is taken advantage of by introducing a stepped surface that may function as platforms for viewing during speaker-led events and a stage for others. The space would also allow for mobile stages and setups to be fabricated anywhere within the square allowing it to be used for different purposes such as theatrical performances, concerts, fairs, Sunday markets and art exhibitions with the main square is distinctively defined by a randomly striped dark grey and white monolithic tiles, striped grass and pavers, new timber clad benches and a pedestrian street at one of the edges.” Maria Elena Catajan
