Enhanced My School, My Home Program

-

“OUR students are the hope of our motherland! I have recommended in my writings the study of civic virtues, without which there is no redemption.” Such are the very meaningful verses of Dr. Jose Rizal! It is in the spirit of these words that the cause of empowering the students through education and its encompassing programs such as the ‘Enhanced My School, My Home Program’ is strengthened.

Education plays a vital role in molding the youth of today. It is through education that we can truly prepare the youth as responsible citizens. Schools further train them to be productive leaders through youth organizations and activities integrated in the curriculum. Schools also provide learning experiences to learners through the teachers who play a very essential role in delivering quality education, with the guidance of the school heads.

With the conviction that we belong to the countries in Asia and one of the only three countries in the world with a 10-year pre-university program, the Department of Education rolled out the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum since 2012. The K to 12 curriculum envisions the holistic development of Filipino students with 21st century skills who are ready for employment, entrepreneurship, middle level skills development and higher education upon graduation. Alongside with the curriculum implementation, the schools are also to protect the students not only of their right to education but also their right to be safe in the school environment. This is the great responsibility lodged to all school personnel and stakeholders spearheaded by the Schools Division of Baguio City.

With the launching of the division-initiated program, “My School, My Home Program” in 2015, which is currently being enhanced this school year 2017-2018 in order to include possible protective measures for the benefit of our children, it features four important components. The division traces up its core values from the DepEd Core Values to highlight the value of love, resilience, care and humility. After careful analysis of the many factors affecting the behavior of children in school, it is indeed proper to find means to exemplify and encourage the practice of such values. The second component is the strengthening of the Child Protection Policy and Anti-bullying mechanisms in school. This is to ensure that both the offenders and the victims are properly addressed. This can only be achieved through a functional policy and referral system that involves concerned institutions in the community. The third component is the integration of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) concepts in the curriculum in order to inculcate preparedness and enable them to understand better the effect of climate change in the environment. The fourth component is the Anti-Drug Abuse Program to emphasize drug prevention and control in the school curriculum.

In line with this endeavor, the Schools Division of Baguio City salutes the efforts of the City Government of Baguio in collaborating with the schools as seen in their various city ordinances in order to make Baguio City a Character City, a peaceful and progressive community, a safe city with responsive citizens, and a drug-free community.

The Enhanced My School, My Home Program, gives the students a feeling of security and peace. It provides them a connection to the school similar with their families and these would only be realized through the support of the community, and through the passion of teachers and educators. We believe that civic virtues despite differences will bind us all together for the benefit of our children in the city! Truly, it takes a community to raise a child. By Juliet C. Sannad
