-

WITH THE theme, “Be an S&T Scholar for the Nation”, the Department of Science and Technology announced the science and technology undergraduate scholarship is now open to interested graduating Grade 12 students in the region.

Republic Act 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act” provides scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

On the other hand, the DOST-SEI Merit scholarship program, formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship under RA No. 2067, is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

DOST scholarship privileges include tuition and other school fees (P10,000/semester), book allowance (P10,000/year), monthly living allowance (P6,000-4,000/ month), transportation allowance, and group insurance among others.

Deadline for filing of application for the RA 7687 and Merit scholarship programs is on August 25 while the National Competitive Examination is set on October 15. Application forms for the said scholarship programs are now

available at the DOSTCAR regional office located at the BSU Cmpd., Km. 6, La Trinidad, Benguet or at any of the Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) in the region. Forms may also be downloaded at the DOST Science Education Institute website at www.sei.dost.gov.ph.

Similarly, application for the 2017 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) for third year college students is also open. The JLSS is a scholarship program under RA No. 10612 which aims to strengthen the country’s science and technology education by fast-tracking graduates in the sciences, mathematics and engineering who shall teach science and mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country. Scholarship privileges are the same as that of the RA 7687 and Merit programs.

Deadline for filing of application, the forms of which are also available at the DOST-CAR regional office and PSTCs, is on September 22 while the national competitive examination is on November 19. DOST Release
