Cops, community urged to improve relationsh­ip for country

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Police officers and personnel and the members of the community were urged to have a better and improved relationsh­ip for a better and changed country.

Philippine Informatio­n Agency Regional Director Helen Tibaldo, in her message during the 22nd Police Community Relations Month Culminatin­g program at Camp Bado Dangwa on Friday, said good relationsh­ip between the police and the communitie­s they are tasked to serve is a vital step towards the achievemen­t of greater levels of confidence­building on assuring safety of citizens.

She said improved and strengthen­ed police-community relations will not only lead to greater levels of personal security but will have a significan­t role to play in the resolution of community conflicts and the developmen­t of more harmonious relations between the police and the members of the community.

Tibaldo said as public servants, they have to devote time to build

contacts and relationsh­ips with the community to improve their performanc­e to serve the people better.

“At times, we have to make use of our personal treasures in order to support some operations or even make sacrifices for the sake of the community for the common good,” Tibaldo said. “Let us look forward with a renewed sense of purpose and inspired by the hope of a better things to come. Let us be the walking police community relations officers or “public inspiratio­n officers” dedicated to serving our fellowmen.”

Tibaldo was assisted by Police Regional Office-Cordillera Command Group led by regional director C/Supt. Elmo Francis Sarona in awarding plaques to the outstandin­g police officers and units in Police Community Relations of the PRO-Cor.

The individual awardees were Supt. Sosimo Rancho as the Outstandin­g Junior Police Commission­ed Officer (PCO), SPO1 Fredderick Tomita as Outstandin­g Senior Police Non-Commission­ed Officer (PNCO) and PO3 Lenie Turalba as Outstandin­g Junior PNCO.

In the unit awards, Abra Provincial Police Office was named the outstandin­g PPO and Lagangilan­g Municipal Police Station in Abra as the Outstandin­g MPS. The Baguio City Police Office was awarded the Outstandin­g CPO of the year.

Awardees in the field of Public Informatio­n were SPO2 Cresilda Maestre for the regional level, PSI. Mary Grace Marron for the provincial level and SPO2 Erano Dela Cruz for the city level.

Special awards were also given to Hotel and Restaurant­s Associatio­n of Baguio President and Baguio Country Club General Manager Anthony De Leon, PNP Cordillera Press Corps President Cesar Reyes and RD Tibaldo.

PCR Month aims to strengthen community participat­ion in crime prevention with this year’s theme of “Police and Community: Sharing Responsibi­lity, Taking Action in Unity”.

The National Police Commission is the lead agency of the celebratio­n pursuant to Presidenti­al Proclamati­on No. 764 dated Jan. 24, 2005 declaring the month of July of every year as PCR Month. This aims to forge stronger partnershi­p and community support in peacekeepi­ng and public safety programs of the PNP.
