Learning resources and students academic performance
Education is one of the most important aspect of human resources. Development in education can be described by student’s academic performance. It is affected by learning resources like conducive classrooms, books and other instructional materials.
Learning resources refers to any digital or non-digital object with learning purpose. The resources are designed to be used directly by the student learners and integrated into a teacher developed lessons. These learning resources affects the students’ academic performance. The question of who will provide learning resources and how to address the lack of it is a challenging task.
The department of education has been encouraging teachers to develop a strategic learning resources, these will be uploaded in the Learning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) of the Department and will be readily accessible to teachers. Its objective is to modify and enhance instructional and learning materials for the implementation of Alternative Delivery Models and Learning Systems.
This means that teachers have to be more innovative in raising the quality, efficiency, and productivity of education. The student now a days needs tangible reading resources to understand and comprehend the lessons. With my fifteen years in teaching. I am proud of the teachers in the public school that were brave enough to face all the challenges in educating children despite the lack of instructional materials.
Gladly, there are teachers who will go the extra mile of developing and modifying instructional materials/lessons without depending on what will the government give in the education of the learners.
In the second year of implementation of the Senior High School, I provide remediation to my students, I noticed that the senior high students do not mind completing the task given to them even it is modified remediation for them with the allotted time to complete the task but still they failed. In my experience and observation students behavior is one of the most challenges the teachers encounter in giving remediation. Some do not grab the opportunity that was provided for them to cope with their missing performance tasks. By Janet T. Gawidan
