-

In adherence and response to the increasing demands for scientific knowledge, theories and skills to be applied in this modern era of robotics and super scientific gadgets, the Department of Education is currently envisioning to produce more scientifically gifted and equipped learners with superb technological and scientific skills and are highly globally competitive. To keep up with this noble vision or objective, the department pursues the implementation of a Special Science Curriculum. This is a special curriculum specifically designed and formulated to enrich the competencies of advanced and scientifically inclined learners.

In order to ensure that all scholars or beneficiaries of the Special Science class are truly qualified and deserving to be benefitted by the Special Science Class, the Department of Science and Technology prescribes and provides the selection test for applicants who are willing to undergo rigid screening. To qualify as examinees, the Pupils must reach a particular grade requirement in major subjects like English, Science and Mathematics, and must cope with the required general average. Once qualified to be a beneficiary of the Special Science Class, the learner is required to maintain a target grade not lower than 80% and must comply with an 85% required general average.

The Special Science classes are being subjected to the curriculum standards that are scientifically, mathematically and research oriented. These classes are established to expose beneficiaries to advance Science and Mathematics instructions. Advanced subjects assigned to be taught to the learners are Earth Science, Advanced Biology, Advanced Chemistry and Calculus. These classes also offer instructions evolving on computer education and scientific research. Under Special Science classes, pupils will be rigidly and intensively trained and honed in conducting experimental researches in Science. The best features or components of Special Science classes are the learners’ unlimited exposure to science-related instructional activities, utilization of advance, enriched instructional materials and intensive utilization of audio-visual tools, devices and gadgets and maximum use of laboratory equipment for scientific learning purposes.
