UBSIHTM launches green SWITCH
IN celebration of the tourism month, the University of Baguio School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UBSIHTM) organized the annual Tourism Week celebration with the theme “Sustainable Tourism: A Tool for Development”. The event was held September 19-21.
Tourism Week 2017 highlights the launching of the newest Green SWITCH (Sustainable Way of Innovating and Transforming for a Happy Community) emphasizing that sustainability need not to be expensive, to contribute to green change.
The symbolic signing as support to green SWITCH was graced by Jovita Ganongan (Chief Tourism Operations Office-Dept. of Tourism), Dept. of Environment and Natural ResourcesCAR rep., Prof. Dhanna Kerina Rodas (UB Pres.), Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista (UB Vice Pres. for Finance), Melanie Saro (Dean, UBSIHTM), Ms. Jenelyn Magpatoc (Program Chair for BSTM), other VIPs, faculty members, staffs, and students. Green SWITCH had its pre-launch during the SIHTM Day and Night when participants showed their commitment to sustainability by bringing their own tumblers and lunch boxes.
There were simultaneous competitions such as Quiz Bee, Open Photography, Tourism Poster and Slogan Making, Feature Article Writing, Photoshop Cover Page, Destination Ad Campaign, Flight Attendant Showmanship, International Tour Package, International Virtual Tour Guiding, Tourism Development Plan Presentation, International Cultural Dance Presentation, International and Philippine Tribal Costume Presentation. As well as student organization event competitions like Event Proposal (Karkarna ti Rabii), Hotel Product Presentation, Virtual Tour Guiding (UB) and Tourism Sing and Dance.
Later in the afternoon, awards given included the Young Innovative Chefs (YIC) as the overall Champion; Young Interactive Professionals (YIPro) as the 1st runner up; and the Honor Society as the 2nd runner up.
Tourism Week 2017 was organized and spearheaded by Dean Melanie Saro, Jenelyn Magpatoc (Overall Chairperson Tourism Week 2017), Joanna Marie Victorio (CoChairperson Tourism Week 2017), Rachelle Anne Montoya and Jessel Rufin, together with the Events Management class of Josefa Angelica Cabuang, and officers and members of Travel Club-League of Tourism Students of the Philippines.
