UBSIHTM launches green SWITCH

IN celebratio­n of the tourism month, the University of Baguio School of Internatio­nal Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management (UBSIHTM) organized the annual Tourism Week celebratio­n with the theme “Sustainabl­e Tourism: A Tool for Developmen­t”. The event was held September 19-21.

Tourism Week 2017 highlights the launching of the newest Green SWITCH (Sustainabl­e Way of Innovating and Transformi­ng for a Happy Community) emphasizin­g that sustainabi­lity need not to be expensive, to contribute to green change.

The symbolic signing as support to green SWITCH was graced by Jovita Ganongan (Chief Tourism Operations Office-Dept. of Tourism), Dept. of Environmen­t and Natural ResourcesC­AR rep., Prof. Dhanna Kerina Rodas (UB Pres.), Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista (UB Vice Pres. for Finance), Melanie Saro (Dean, UBSIHTM), Ms. Jenelyn Magpatoc (Program Chair for BSTM), other VIPs, faculty members, staffs, and students. Green SWITCH had its pre-launch during the SIHTM Day and Night when participan­ts showed their commitment to sustainabi­lity by bringing their own tumblers and lunch boxes.

There were simultaneo­us competitio­ns such as Quiz Bee, Open Photograph­y, Tourism Poster and Slogan Making, Feature Article Writing, Photoshop Cover Page, Destinatio­n Ad Campaign, Flight Attendant Showmanshi­p, Internatio­nal Tour Package, Internatio­nal Virtual Tour Guiding, Tourism Developmen­t Plan Presentati­on, Internatio­nal Cultural Dance Presentati­on, Internatio­nal and Philippine Tribal Costume Presentati­on. As well as student organizati­on event competitio­ns like Event Proposal (Karkarna ti Rabii), Hotel Product Presentati­on, Virtual Tour Guiding (UB) and Tourism Sing and Dance.

Later in the afternoon, awards given included the Young Innovative Chefs (YIC) as the overall Champion; Young Interactiv­e Profession­als (YIPro) as the 1st runner up; and the Honor Society as the 2nd runner up.

Tourism Week 2017 was organized and spearheade­d by Dean Melanie Saro, Jenelyn Magpatoc (Overall Chairperso­n Tourism Week 2017), Joanna Marie Victorio (CoChairper­son Tourism Week 2017), Rachelle Anne Montoya and Jessel Rufin, together with the Events Management class of Josefa Angelica Cabuang, and officers and members of Travel Club-League of Tourism Students of the Philippine­s.
