Student outshines artists in paint tilt

STUDENTS took the top spots in the National Police Commission’s on the spot painting contest at the Baguio City Police Office held Sept. 20.

Architectu­re student Jessie Marie Esteban ruled the open division beating two veteran painters Wreigh Jann Tamayo and Ged Alangui.

Her Observant Community – Harmony of Peaceful Community were tied with Tamayo’s ‘And Justice For All’ but was chosen by the judges during their second tour to break the tie.

Esteban went home P5,000, while Tamayo settled for the P3,000 second place prize.

Veteran artist Alangui, the oldest at 47, came in third with his monochroma­tic ‘Vigilance and the Simplest Tools to Crime Watch’ and the P2,000 prize.

La Trinidad National High School grade 12 Titus Castro bested Zoe Rosh Nisperos of Pines City National High School for P3,000 top purse with his ‘Peaceful Night’.

The PCHS grade 12 settled for the runnerup bounty of P2,000, while classmate Kaiserlyn Alos came in third with her Awareness Will Save You work and a P1,000 pay-off.

Aliyah Chyna Lim had the most likes and shares on Facebook to win the Social Media Star award for students, while Andrew Tom Cruz won the open side.

Lim, of Saint Louis Center High School amassed 1,203 likes and5,659 shares for 12,521 points to win the title without a sweat, while Cruz submitted 8,079 points from 111 and 3,934 likes and shares, respective­ly.

Alos was second on the student side with 5,099 points (323, 2,388), followed by Lorie May Papey of SLCHS with 3, 221 points (803, 1,224) and Shiela Mae Aklin from Baguio City High School with 771 (543, 114).

Ronald de Leon caught the last train after making 522 points (374, 74).

Nine painters joined the one day contest for the open division, while 14 were part of the student category.

“We’re very happy that you heeded our call,” said Napolcom regional director Editha SemillaPud­doc, who organized the event with the Pasa-Kalye Arts Society with the National Crime Prevention Week theme of “Mamayang Mapagmasid, Kapayapaan ang Maihahatid” as topic.
