LRTA, PNP sign partnership deal

-

THE Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has partnered with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to boost police visibility and security measures for commuters, and personnel as well as their equipment and facilities.

A memorandum of agreement was signed by PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Oscar Albayalde and LRTA administrator General Reynaldo Berroya.

The partnership aims to intensify PNP's information dissemination on criminals' modus operandi and how to avoid being a victim by posting crime information materials inside the trains and rail stations.

The deal allows the PNP will set up women's desk in Santolan, Cubao and Recto stations to deter incidents such as acts of lasciviousness, sexual advances, and unlawful activities against women within the LRT premises.

Officials urged the would-be victims, particularly the women, to immediately report to the women's desk such incidents.

The PNP together with the LRTA personnel will also conduct quarterly emergency drills in preparation for possible emergency situations.

Policemen wearing their uniform and have valid IDs may also enjoy a free ride.

Dela Rosa said they are hoping that such move will promote a greater feeling of safety and security for the commuters.
