MORE opportunities await students looking for job in the tourism industry. This was revealed in the recent 1st North Philippines Tourism Forum and Career Fair conducted at the Cap-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City.

Department of Tourism Cordillera regional director Marie Venus Tan, proponent of the project said these various opportunities in the tourism industry will tell that work is not only limited for skilled employment but rather offers more professional career path such as what is being offered in the cruise lines.

There are also good prospects in entrepreneurship with tourism entrepreneurs doing business online with the aid of digital equipment like mobile phones.

All the learning about this growing industry covering the culinary, restaurants, and hotels & resorts were shared by the industry leaders and icons to the participants which include the students from the regions in North Luzon.

The event also gave an immediate employment to many jobseekers who were hired on the spot.

The 3-day activity also showcased Cordillera as Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions) ‘career’ hub for tourism.

With the success of the event the Department of Tourism national office intends to adopt the program and bring it to other places of the country. This effort is seen to help the country achieve its goal of getting the title as number one tourist destination in Asia.

With the many beautiful places and enormous number of human resources the country has and not to mention the support of the different sectors of the country, the quest for this title will not be far from reality.

May this program initiated by DOT-CAR continue to flourish.
