DepEd holds IP education congress
AIMING to advance the Indigenous People education (IPEd) in the region, leaders, together with the Department of Education-Cordillera (DepEd-CAR) convened for the Indigenous People Education Congress 2017.
Educational Program supervisor-incharge of IPEd Carmel Meris said the threeday event brings together all stakeholders to see how teachers and school heads are implementing IPEd in the region.
“All divisions are into contextualizing learning materials and lesson plans from kinder to grade 2 . We are looking forward that they are continuing the effort until grade 12.”
Keynote Speaker Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Management Services Attorney Revsee Escobedo said “Iyong Cordillera malaki po ang improvement when it comes to IP education mas aabante po sila marami na po silang contextualizations and mayroon silang mga learning areas na nacocontextualized and naisasali na rin sa kanilang lengwahe.”
DepEd said 45 percent of Indigenous People in the country are from the Cordillera with 62 percent composed of learners and teachers belonging to the IP community.
DepEd-Cordillera Regional Director May Eclar said they were able to come up with our regional policies on IP education, refine cultural standards and platforms of every IP education aligned to our programs regional policy framework.
“The region has taken the challenge of showcasing the importance of recognizing the culture as a foundation or bedrock of education system.”
The three day congress will end Wednesday, October 25 at the DepEd-CAR in Wangal themed “Sustaining Partnerships for Indigenous Peoples Education.”
