- Maria Elena Catajan

AIRASIA Philippines Chief Executive Officer Captain Dexter Comendador said connectivity as well as affordability for Northern Luzon customers is underway.

Comendador said flights from Clark is doing very well and hopes to give more affordable fares with the anticipated scrapping of travel taxes by government “We have asked them to scrap the P1,600 and airport fees imposed on departing travelers in a bid to spur outbound travel.

Comendador a proposal was submitted to the departments of finance, tourism, trade and industry, and transportation, seeking the removal of the travel tax collected by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Authority (TIEZA), as well as airport fees

“We kept on asking the government that they give us incentives, one is airport fees,” talks with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines are ongoing for the waiving of the fees for at least 5 years.”

Outbound passen-

gers are charged travel tax of a minimum of P1,600 depending on what type of ticket, the taxes go to TIEZA , the Commission on Higher Education and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Comendador said the scrapping of fees will allow airlines to give lower prices for airfare and make the lives of passengers easier, saying the money which was scrapped will go back to the government with tourists spending more for food, travel and accommodations.
