PMA topples CCDC in BBEAL basketball

PHILIPPINE Military Academy just had too much arsenal as it turned back Cordillera Career Developmen­t College in the ongoing eliminatio­ns round of the 31st season of the Baguio - Benguet Educationa­l Athletic League.

The Cavaliers waylaid the hapless Admirals, 92 - 70, in men's basketball of the largest collegiate league in Northern Luzon Sunday afternoon at the University of Baguio Gym.

PMA raced to an early 25 -9 advantage in the opening canto with cadet Allan Paul Mendoza leading the charge for the Fort Del Pilar based dribblers and later closed the first quarter with a huge 32 - 18 advantage.

With Mendoza tak- ing a much needed rest, the Cavaliers slowly pulled away and enjoyed an 18 point lead, 42 - 24, with 6:17 remaining in the first half of the ball game as Cadets Aaron Nathaniel Torres and Gian Franco Dumelod conspiring a searing 10 - 0 run in the second period.

The Admirals however slowly chipped away the lead as Manuel Felix Jr., Paul Balagot and Paul John Narvaez teamed up and slowly turned the tide as CCDC trimmed the double digit deficit to only nine, 50 - 41, at the end of the second quarter.

CCDC continued to wax hot in the third canto as it came close to within three, 52 - 49 with 6:49 remaining with Balagot, Felix and Mark Anthony leading the onslaught.

The Cavaliers however answered a mini run of their own with Mendoza picking up where he left off in the first half anchoring the much needed point production to restore a 66 - 58 advantage at the close of the third period.

It was the last fight back from the Admirals as PMA pulled away anew, 75 - 61, with 7:18 remaining in the ball game a Mendoza and the rest of the cadets scoring at will.

Mendoza led the Cavaliers with his game high 37 points while Torres and Dumelod chipped in 10 and eight markers apiece.

Felix top billed the Admirals with 21 while Balagot and Narvaez contribute­d 16 and 11 as Piamonte added nine. Roderick Osis
