Baguio archers lead in Batang Pinoy Luzon
EXPOSURE of local archers in competitions have paid off for the Summer Capital after bagging one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the ongoing Luzon leg of the Batang Pinoy in Vigan City.
Jemuelle James Espiritu started the medal haul after topping the qualifications round of the bowman category then following it up with a silver medal finish in the tion.
Some 19 sports
events will be played in different venues: archery at the San Ildefonso Central School; arnis at the Pantay Daya covered court; athletics at the Pres.
Elpedio Quirino Stadium; badminton at the Bantay Badminton court; baseball at the Cerillo Lao Compound; girls' basketball at the Caoayan covered court; boys' basketball at the Santa Catalina covered court; boxing at the Vigan City Plaza; chess at the Balwarte Function Hall; dancesport at the NSCC; karatedo at the Vigan Convention Center; girls' lawn tennis at the Vigan Tennis Court; boys' lawn tennis at the Sta. Catalina; pencak silat at the NSCC; sepak takraw at the Baddend covered court; softball at the Cerillo Lao compound; swimming at the Quirino Stadium; table tennis at the San Vicente covered court; taekwondo at the Vigan Convention Center; volleyball at the Immaculate Conception Seminary covered court and Immaculate Conception School of Theology; and beach volley at the Pres. Elpedio Quirino Stadium.
During the national finals held in Tagum City last year, the Summer Capital took home 55 gold medals including 41 silver and 41 bronze medal besting Cebu City with 43-3132 and Davao City (35-44-65).
The feat earned Baguio City a P500,000 incentive coming from the Philippine Sports Commission as a way recognizing the LGU's efforts in becoming partners for sports development.
Batang Pinoy is a grassroots-based sports undertaking by the Philippine Sports Commission which aims to widen the base in the selection of potential athletes for national and international competitions.
