PSC conducts PWD sports clinic

THE ST. John Paul II Learning Center, Inc. (SPLCI) will conduct a Sports Clinic on December 7 and 8 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl in coordinati­on with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Sports Associatio­n for the Differentl­y-Abled (PSC-PHILSPADA).

School Principal Novella Joy Garma said the two-day activity aims to prepare local persons with disabiliti­es (PWDs) for the Asian Paralympic­s that the country will host in 2019.

On December 7, there will be an opening program at Baguio Athletic Bowl starting 9 a.m. with SPLCI chairman Antonio Dayot giving the welcome remarks and city social welfare and developmen­t officer Betty Fangasan the opening message.

Delivering the inspiratio­nal message is councilor Arthur Allad-iw while NCDA Informatio­n, Education and Communicat­ion Division chief Rizalio Sanchez will also give a message while a PSCPHILSPA­DA trainer will give an introducti­on of sports to stu-

dents with disabiliti­es.

In the afternoon, PSC-PHILSPADA representa­tives will conduct actual demonstrat­ions and game trials and hold an orientatio­n on how to handle students with disabiliti­es in sports for special education (SPED) teachers.

A mini-olympics of track and field events will be conducted by PSC-PHILSPADA on December 8 from 9 a.m. until 3 in the afternoon. This will be followed by the closing ceremonies with Sanchez and Avelino Tomas giving the closing remarks and awarding of certificat­es to the activity’s participan­ts.
