Cardinals soars past BBEAL foes in arnis
UNIVERSITY of Baguio is off to another hot start after lording the arnis competition to kick off its campaign in the second phase of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League season 30.
With nine titles already in the bag for the Cardinals, UB athletes continue their romp with a 14 gold , one silver and three bronze medals to bag the overall championship in arnis held at the Philippine Military Academy’s Juarado Hall on February 10 – 11.
Trailing UB is Saint Louis University with a 3-7-4 medal haul to claim second while Benguet State Univer- sity surprised the field with its 2-3-3 harvest to sneak in the top three.
The Cardinals leaned on Kelvin Claen Balansi and Felvy Ahul who snatched four gold medals apiece.
Balansi Ah-ul took three gold medals each in the single weapon, double identical weapon and sword and dagger category in Likha Anyo while bagging a gold each in the men’s 51 kg and women’s 51-55 kg in Labanan.
Also winning gold medals for UB include Don Lee Aliga ( 5155kg), Richard Tambol (73-81kg), Clinton Lumabao(81 kg and
above), Shaira Paligan (47-51kg), Fredjet rufino (55-60kg) and Dianne Eve Bantasan(73kg and above).
SLU meanwhile took the gold in the 60-66kg courtesy of Lira Acachang, the 66 to 73kg from Jana Kaye Balicdang while Greg Banaban won in the 55-60kg weight class.
BSU’s Ramesh Aniban and Kerry Von Afid bagged the gold in the 60-66kg and the 66-73 while PMA’s lone gold medalist is Christ’l May Palmes who won in the below 47kg.
University of the Cordilleras meanwhile took home three silver and six bronze medals courtesy of Angela Donglay who won two and Kristen Pearl Tamiking.
Cordillera Career Development College meanwhile placed sixth with a lone silver coming from Rechelle Langfisan and six bronze medals.
The Cardinals soared to the top of the team standings after the first phase of competition by topping swimming, table tennis, men's wushu, men's badminton, women's archery, men's chess, and women's basketball.
Other participating schools in the largest collegiate league in Northern Luzon include season host Kings College of the Philippines, Baguio Central University, Pines City Colleges, and University of the Philippines
