THE HOUSE of Representatives has approved on second reading establishing the Cordillera State Polytechnic Skills Institute (CSPSI).

House Bill 2141 substituted by HB 7264 filed by Baguio City Representative Mark aims to create a state polytechnic skills institute in the region of Cordillera under the supervision of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The establishment of CSPSI would integrate the TESDA training centers and TESDA-Supervised State Run Technical-Vocational Institutions (TVIs) in the said region.

Such integration include the Baguio City of School of Arts and Trades, TESDA Regional Training Center-Baguio City, TESDA Provincial Training Centers in Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province, the Local Government Unit (LGU) Provincial Training Center in Apayao, and other state-run technical-vocation institutions in the region.

“The creation of

CSPSI would strengthen the country’s technicalvocational education to immediately effect a major shift towards the development of worldclass Filipino workforce. This would equipped our people with practical technical skills of global competence and caliber responsive to the needs of both the domestic and global job market and aligned with the ASEAN integration framework and other international agreements for technical-vocational skills,” Go explained.

The Institute endeavors to bring about greater industry-academe collaboration and critical partnerships with local and international institutions to forge mutual skills benchmarking standards geared towards the acquisition of employable skills, gainful employment, practical livelihood and entrepreneurship.

“The establishment of CSPSI is aligned with the recent major developments challenging the Philippine higher and technical-vocational education priorities and mandates making it more viable to support the development needs for a robust inclusive economy of Baguio City and the rest of the integrated localities in the CAR,” Go added.
