Ifugao celebrates improved CARAA meet standing

-

LAGAWE, Ifugao -Local officials, school personnel and winning athletes who represented the province during the recently-held 2018 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet held a victory celebration for garnering third place overall during the sports competition held in Bangued, Abra last month.

Ifugao harvested a total medal tally of 36 gold, 55 silver and 68 bronze behind perennial powerhouses Baguio City and Benguet.

The celebration began with a motorcade around the center

barangay of this capital town followed by a program at the Lagawe Central School gymnasium in which the athletes who won medals during the sports meet were honored and awarded certificates of recognition.

Ifugao’s third place overall rank came as a surprise as the delegation faced several challenges such as limited period for training, inadequate trainers and coaches, limited budget and other logistics.

However, these problems were not a hindrance to their success as shown by their performances and achievement.

In his message during the program, Fr. Francis Balacquit, President of the Ifugao Private Schools Athletic Association (IPSAA) said there are three main factors needed to attain victory during competitions which are readiness to fight, confidence and the will to win which were displayed by the athletes.

On the other hand, Governor Pedro Mayam-o hailed the accomplishment of the athletes and sports officials urging everyone to always maintain unity and cooperation in all endeavors where the interest and honor of the province is at stake since in unity there is strength and even the most difficult problem can be overcome.
