- Maria Elena Catajan Sun*Star Reporter

COUNCILOR Maylen Yaranon has asked President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to help the city acquire the idle GSIS property at the PNR.

Yaranon said “The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is a national entity and only the president can tell them.”

The lady councilor said the GSIS is selling the property at the PNR compound but the city cannot afford it.

“The lot owned by the GSIS located at

DPS –Marcoville Barangay is idle for many years and it is ideal to be utilized as a central bus terminal, relocating the central bus terminal from Gov Pack road to DPS Marcoville baranagy will make the traffic flow smooth at the former road and will make the GSIS lot productive.”

In a resolution, Yaranon has asked Duterte to negotiate in behalf of the City Government of Baguio with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to utilize their lot located at the DPS Marcoville barangay as a central bus terminal with amenities such as but not limited to toilets, coffee shops and souvenir stores.

Yaranon said the existing Baguio central bus terminal is located at Governor Pack Road with more than 5 bus companies operating from the city to any point in Luzon.

“Governor Pack road is a main thoroughfare going in and out of the Central Business District, passage way to thousands of students and a shorter way for ambulances, fire trucks and police cars, the buses unload and load passengers and turn at the said road causing traffic congestion within the area.”

Yaranon said roads make a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefit. “They are of vital importance in order to make a nation grow and develop. In addition, providing access to employment, social, health and education services makes a road network crucial in fighting against poverty and traffic congestion cause daily economic losses.”
