More proposals urged for Burnham parking
THE City Environment and Parks Management Office [CEPMO] is calling for more proposals from investors for a multi story pay parking facility at the old auditorium despite gaining criticism from the public.
In the weekly 'Talakayan sa Environmental Code' forum, CEPMO Chief Cordelia Lacsamana explained despite unsolicited advice, the proposals would still fall on the hands of the city government provided it represents the majority stand of the citizens of the city.
"At the moment, there are so many unsolicited advice coming from various sectors but the City of Baguio should come up now for an approved Master Development Plan for Burnham Park that should pave the way in providing the criteria for the construction of a multi story pay parking building provided the conditions abide by the green architecture engineering design as proposed by the University of the Cordilleras."
If the city agrees on any proposals, the primary objective should consider the determination of its economic viability, environmental compatibility and must address the needs of the population based on a united stance.
said "If there would be proposals to be approved, it should not deprive our citizens from the public space they deserve and should not degrade the environment because Burnham Park is the last environmental space in the city located at the central business district.”
In a separate Councilor Maria Mylen Yaranon led the local council in approving an ordinance mandating the construction of a multi-level parking building at Camp Henry T. Allen.
The ordinance proposed a multi-level parking within the jurisdiction of Camp Henry T. Allen to be used as parking space, evacuation center, livelihood center, basketball court, training area for the Bureau of Fire Protection and to house pay public toilets.
Construction of various multi-level parking buildings has been proposed by experts to decongest traffic in the city.
