Ifugao fighter KOs foe for WBA Asia crown

-

CARL Jammes Martin continues his ascend to the top of the boxing ranks after easily dispatching his opponent on June 23 in Lagawe, Ifugao.

Martin ended Indonesian George Lumoly’s journey to the Philippines with a third round knockout to capture the vacant World Boxing Association Asia bantamweight title in the main event of ‘Battle of the Fist.’

The Ifugao boxing sensation perfectly timed a body shot to earn the first knock down in the first round but Lumoly recovered in the second round and made it a brawl.

But Martin saw an opening in the third round with a well timed straight to the face that sent the Indon to the canvass.

“Hindi ko po siya maniliit kasi po sa 10 panalo may walong knock out at sobrang malakas po yung patama sa katawan,” said Martin in an interview with Radyo Pilipinas.

With the win, Martin improved to nine wins, with eight of his bouts coming by way of knock - out while Lumoly dropped to 105-1.

Although Martin is fast becoming a household name in boxing here in the Cordillera region, he believes he has still a long way to go before becoming a world champion.

In the supporting main event, Enrique Magsalin snatched the vacant Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) flyweight title by edging John Magsanoc.

Roy Nagulman meanwhile stopped Ruben Cadpa in their flyweight match while Joshua Philip Tuguinay made short work of Simeon Chulipoh in another flyweight match as lightweight Jospeh Bayubay edged Evander Dogwe.

Francisco Morales scored an impressive debut win against Jessie Roger Tugiunay in a minimum weight clash while lightweight Eufemio Gamangan defeated Carlo Miguel.
