BJMP recognizes personnel, partners

THE BUREAU of Jail Management and Penology recognized(BJMP) Cordillera Office recognized its outstandin­g jail officers and units as and partners from the government and private sector in providing services to the agency and persons deprived of liberty(PDL).

BJMP Chief Jail Director Deogracias Tapayan and BJMPCAR regional director Senior Superinten­dent Edgar Bolcio led the awarding of plaques and tokens to the awardees during the celebratio­n of the Agency’s 27th anniversar­y last week.

Individual awardees are J/Supt. Wilson Banasen, assistant regional director for administra­tion and operation, as the Best Senior Officer of the Year; BJMP-CAR operations division chief J/CInsp. Mark Coplat as the Best Staff Officer; Alfonso Lista District Jail warden J/Insp. Enrique De Guzman as the Best Junior Officer; Ifugao Provincial Administra­tor J/CInsp. Jerome Bulayungan as the Best Jail Provincial Administra­tor; Buguias District Jail warden J/ Insp. Bartolome Tresmanio as the Best District Jail Warden; Baguio City Jail – female dorm warden J/ SInsp. April Rose Ayangwa as the Best City Jail Warden; La Trinidad Municipal Jail warden J/Insp John Melecio as the Best Municipal Jail Warden; BJMP-CAR regional office operations JO2 Wind Wansi as the Best Male Jail Non-Officer Rank and Baguio City Female JO1 Lumbanay Jasmine Domacyon as the Best Female JailNon Officer Rank of the Year.

For the best BJMP Units, awardees are La Trinidad Municipal Jail as the Best Municipal Jail of the Year, Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory as the Best City Jail of the Year and Alfonso Lista District Jail as the Best District Jail of the Year.

Awardees of the BJMP Long Service are J/Insp. Mark Coplat for his 30 years of service and dedication to the BJMP, J/Insp. Rudy Padeng also for 30 years in service, and S/JO3 Regino Castillo and SJO1 Manuel Calyaen for 25 years in service.

The BJMP also gave out special awards in recognitio­n of the continued support to the programs and aspiration­s of the BJMP which immensely contribute­d to the success of the endeavors for the developmen­t of the PDLs transformi­ng them as responsibl­e, productive and law

abiding citizens upon release from jail.

Among the institutio­nal partners recognized are the City Government of Baguio; the municipali­ties of La Trinidad, Itogon and Tuba in Benguet; the Seventh Day Adventist Church; the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center – Out patient Drug Treatment and Rehabilita­tion Center and the Pines City Colleges-College of Dentistry.

Also awarded are Romelda Escano, a long time service provider from Baguio LGU, Nonette Bennet of Baguio City, a journalist and volunteer alternativ­e learning system teacher of PDLs for 12 years now, and Angelica Balonggay of Tabuk City, Kalinga, also a volunteer ALS teacher.

Artist and director Angelo Aurelio received a special award. Aurelio has been conducted acting workshops for PDLs to hone their skills in acting and eventually produced a play entitled the “Anatomy of an Octopus Woman,” which claimed the Best in Sports and Cultural Implemente­r Award during the 5th Internatio­nal Women’s Day Annual Conference.

The play set in the confines of the Baguio City Jail won Best New Concept Production and Best Director besting nominees from all over the country in the 30th Aliw Awards in December 2017. The play was nominated in five categories namely Best New Concept Production, Best Performanc­e (New Concept)Hiromi Meguro, Best Performanc­e (New Concept)-Benjan Natividad, Best Performanc­e by an Ensemble -Jail Inmates of BJMP Women's Jail, and Best Director (New Concept).

Tapayan commended the regional awardees for living up to the challenges of jail services and praised the escort detainees, custodial tower guards, and searchers. He also thanked the service providers and partners for their untiring support to the programs of the BJMP for the welfare and developmen­t of the PDLs while inside the jail facilities.

“These tasks maybe ordinary and routinary that we often take them for granted, but these tasks largely contribute­d to the fulfilment of our mandate as an institutio­n,” Tapayan said.
