PSC partners with DepEd on grassroots sports

- PR

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission Chairman Butch Ramirez will lead the strategic planning on the proposed partnership on grassroots sports between his agency and the Department of Education from November 5 to 7 in Davao City.

Ramirez said that this partnership has been in the works for some months now and that this planning session shall help finalize plans to partner with DepEd on expanding the grassroots development drive of the premier government agency on sports.

“We hope to be able to train our teachercoaches and get them up to speed with the developments in different sports. The more knowledgeable they are, all the better they can teach our youth,” said Ramirez.

Also on the table for discussion is a unified sports calendar which will sync the Batang Pinoy, Philippine National Games, Regional Athletic meets and the Palarong Pambansa.

Ramirez informed that this is one of the main concerns raised by different parties during a series of consultative meetings with schools, universities, colleges and local government units. “We have to admit that resources to fund the training and participation of athletes are limited so we have to be able to give them a well-planned calendar so they can also do their own planning,” said the sports chief.

Initial meetings with DepEd counterparts were done previously, the most recent being in Philsports Complex last week.

After this strategic planning with DepEd, a consultative meeting and planning with the Philippine Olympic Committee and the different national sports associations is being organized for the end of November.
