Sweet homecoming for Iñigo, clinches FWD title

-

TEEN RACING sensation Iñigo Anton finally shows off his wares in front of his hometown, impressing motor sports fans by clinching the 2018 Phoenix National Front Wheel Drive (FWD) Slalom championship during his hometown race held recently at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

The 14 – year – old Baguio Achievers Academy 9th grader won seven divisions on route to winning the title over his closest rival and 2015 National FWD champion Richard Gallardo of JAF racing.

“I’m glad it’s finally over and we won the 2018 FWD championship. To do it here in front of my friends, family and all the people who support me from Baguio is something I will truly cherish forever,” Anton said.

The Baguio Native made history last

year by clinching both the Novice Championship and the FWD championship on the same year at just 13 years of age. Now Anton becomes the youngest ever back to back FWD champion in the sports rich 32 year history.

“Iñigo made us all so proud today, he drove a super race and put on a really good show for the crowd. For him to clinch the FWD title with two races to spare is something else. I guess that’s why they have nicknamed him ‘The Phenom’,” proud father Carlos said of his son.

Anton battled it out all day against Milo Rivera, Jevoy Moreno and Richard Gallardo for the fastest time of the day. Moreno (37.92) ended up taking it over Anton (38.08) by just 16/100 of a second with Rivera (38.20) third and Gallardo (39.27) 4th fastest.

This was enough for Anton to clinch the title since he pulled another four points ahead of Gallardo giving ‘The Phenom’ a total lead of 40.5 points in the championship with only 40 points left to play during the last 2 rounds.

Anton is backed by Castrol, Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Cars Unlimited, MPTurbo, Special Stage, JSD Autosport, Mohspeed, Kilton, Kart Plaza, and Parts Pro.
